Help us start our community garden!

Peterborough Curling Club is a place where people enjoy a tight-knit community, but it’s always sad to say goodbye at the end of the curling season. Unfortunately, curling clubs are also victim to high operating costs which make it difficult for them to survive. The ultimate mission of this community garden is to be a place for people to enjoy and build community, learn gardening skills, beautify an underused space, and provide some financial relief to the curling club. Community gardens do a lot to promote wellness - in these spaces, people are able to learn new skills and gain access to new spaces to grow their own food. Studies have shown that people involved in community gardens are more active and eat more fresh produce when they have grown it themselves. All volunteer-led projects like this, however, come with a start up cost and I am asking for your support!

The garden has been designed with a uniquely curling theme that I hope garden members will enjoy and appreciate. Located on the land behind the Peterborough Curling Club, the garden will be mostly allotment-style, where plots will be rented out. There will also be a few communal features such as pollinator and herb gardens as well as a community orchard. 


To help get us off the ground, we plan on needing $4,000:

$200 to set up a rainwater collection system
$100 for garden tools (wheelbarrow, watering cans, trowels, pruning scissors, etc.)
$1900 for lumber to build raised beds
$900 for adequate soil to fill raised beds (triplemix)
$400 for machinery rentals
$500 for business start-up costs (website development, domain name, liability insurance, etc.)
