This is my brother, Miguel, May 17th he was crossing the road in Northeast Orlando, he was struck by a car. He was left for dead, 2 hours later Florida Highway Patrol, and ambulances arrived at the scene. They say there were no witnesses, and as far as we can tell Florida Highway Patrol is doing nothing further to investigate, as phone calls and messages go unanswered.
He had a compound fracture to his left femur, a broken nose, a torn spleen, and zero mobility due to severe damage to both knees. His femur has been repaired by a titanium rod, he has spent a week in the hospital but due, to the fact that he has no insurance and the driver left the scene, he has been sent home. Not to heal but to wait, waiting for medicaid to come through, waiting for a doctor to operate, just waiting in pain. After a visit to the surgeon today he was told if he does not have insurance or does not get approved for Medicaid there will be no surgery, he will not be fixed, and he will never walk again. He is facing several surgeries to repair/replace both knees, and physical therapy. I do not even no where to begin or how much to ask for, but I can only hope that this is a ball park figure. A longshot, I know, we are just praying, hoping, wishing for a miracle!
This is my plea to humankind, has the world become so cold that you just keep driving when you hit a person? Is our system so flawed that they would really turn a seriously injured person away to be a cripple, because they can not pay out-of-pocket?
He is only 21 years old, with his whole life ahead of him, and a baby due in September. Please Help, this is our moment of desperation! Thank you and GOD Bless!
