Help Aliyah Get to College!

Donation protected
I've gotten permission from Aliyah to share her picture and her story.

Aliyah needs our help to get ready for college! She’s graduating from a Baltimore City high school in the top 5% of her class, having taken all advanced placement classes, through her own talent and hard work. She’s been accepted into Morgan State’s School of Engineering (Honors Program) and will be the first person in her family to go to college. She has applied for and obtained a number of scholarships which should cover her cost of attending Morgan State – a reflection of her accomplishments and promise. But Aliyah needs the things families and friends ususally provide when a child is setting off to college- a set of luggage, towels, sheets, lamp, etc. She needs them sooner than later because she will need to move out on her own when she turns 18 in less than a month.

She'd also like to participate in a 5 week residential pre-engineering program that provides hands on engineering experience and one on one tutoring in calculus and physics. The goal of the program is to ensure that students are ready for the rigor of the college engineering program. It is a full time program and participants cannot work. She dosen't think she can participate because she needs to work to suppport herself, but I'm hoping that she can with our help. Being in this program will help ensure that she has the skills to maintain the GPA required to keep her scholarships. It will also provide her with room and board for 5 weeks of the summer before college.

Most people would crumble after having suffered the abuses she's endured. Yet Aliyah has persevered through it all. She sees advanced education as her ticket to a better life for herself and her younger siblings.

Your donation will help to Aliyah participate in the summer pre-engineering program and provide Aliyah with the basics needed by a teen starting college or moving out on her own. It really will take a village – our village - to support this child and launch Aliyah toward building a better life for herself.
