This photo shows me and my son Joshua last year in July. He was healthy and clean for three months. But he didn’t get the intense therapy necessary and had a huge relapse.
You see, he suffered tremendous trauma at the ages of 12 and 13 at the hands of his former math teacher, who also was a youth pastor, and we did not discover until after the fact. This person started him on drugs, to hide what was being done. Currently, my son is 33 and has been experiencing severe ptsd, depression and anxiety and for years has used drugs to numb the pain. He had help as a teen but the ptsd was not recognized. He is a heroin addict.
Last year we sold everything of value to get him into rehab. We knew he was going to die if we didn’t intervene. He did well (on the outside-but I knew differently) for five months and ended up getting kicked out when they discovered his rule breaking. His behavior was that of a 13 year old rebellious teen. He is stuck.
I have found a small recovery center in Georgia that specializes not only in drug rehab but trauma and ptsd and has a therapist trained in EMDR. I have been told by many professionals that unless he deals with the root he will never be able to stay clean.
For the last three months he has been in jail under Casey’s Law -Kentucky, awaiting placement.
I have tried every known resource and someone suggested Gofundme.
So...I am reaching out to the community, to anyone who will hear, to anyone who has ever been affected by heroin, to loved ones who lost the battle, or to those who have overcome. We need help. This is the very last act of love we can do for our son.
Will you please help?
Update- my son has requested help and is currently in a short term facility. We have one week to raise necessary funds, or he will be released from the treatment facility and return to jail. The director said he is working the program with everything he’s got.
