Frederiksted Mural Project

Donation protected
The Artists Guild of St. Croix is proposing the creation of a parade theme mural to be hung over an existing mural that was completed 10-years ago on King Street, by Good Hope Students, across from Kentucky Fried Chicken (6A&B King Street). The lower half (4’high section) will depict backs of heads created from photographs of our island people. The total mural will be painted on 15-4x8 sheets of plywood and will be nailed to the existing wall covering an area 12’x14. Students and local artists will be paid a stipend for all services rendered to complete this project.

Security – In order to create this mural in a safe environment, the Guild has secured a building in Frederiksted, including liability insurance. The building is commonly known as the old Wendy’s
Restaurant, located on the second floor of the Scotia Bank on the corner facing the Pier,
Frederiksted. .

The mural project has many benefits for Frederiksted and St. Croix:
• Create community involvement and jobs for students and local artists
• A parade theme mural depicting our culture and architecture.
• An enhancement to the Town of Frederiksted, reinforcing a wall that is falling down
• Student artists' studies of local people depicted as the parade watchers
• Permanent mural signage will recognize all contributions and artists
• Final product will give locals and tourist the pleasure of viewing a piece of art

Project Dates: The building has been secured to start this project July through August 2013. A

contractor should have the installation completed by the end of August, 2014.
