Billy's medical flight trips

Aloha!  My name is Billy Kekua.  I am a lifetime advocate member in the Hawai`i Deaf Community.  Currently working at Hawai`i School for the Deaf and the Blind as a teacher.  There are few friends that I will never let them go out of my life.  I love the beautiful combination of Hawai`i and friends in the world.  I would like to share my journey with you...

I have been hospitalized twice back in 2011 and recently last month for the same reason.  My heart.  I learned that my deafness may be related to my heart issues.  In 2011, my heart's ability to pump was at 20% (the strong hearts usually pump at least 60%).  Right now, my heart beats at 15%.  The problem lies with the valve - it doesn't work very well.  The blood leaks and it goes back into my heart.  It gets overworked and tired.  Other health functions are ignored which caused my body to bloat and interfered my ability to lead a normal life.

I need the valve replacement surgery.  The Queen's Hospital is not equipped to improve my quality of life due to limited resources available.  So my team of heart doctors, family members, and I decided to do the surgery procedure at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  Their reputation is outstanding and considered the best heart place in the world.  Also, I can stay at my cousin's home in Glen Burnie, Maryland.

I would like to ask for three thousand dollars so I could purchase two confirmed round trip flight tickets for me and my mom Patricia Nagle.  She agreed to travel with me and provide her motherly support.  She and I will take care of our other expenses.

I have an appointment to meet a new doctor on June 10 at 10 am.  The John Hopkins Heart Center will review my file and the doctor will let me know when to set up a surgery.  My heart doctor here at Queens discussed with the hospital and agreed that I will need to have it done as soon as possible.  So I plan to stay there for a month - so it will give them and me some time then I will have it.  I think I need to take a week to recover at my cousin's home before I can fly back home.  I definitely will keep you all posted.

Thank you to you all especially my mom, sister Harvalynn, brothers Vernon, Alika, and Harvard Junior, all of Kekua's and relatives, and my beautiful friends from all over in the world.  I sincerely am grateful for your kindness and spirit of aloha in supporting my journey for a healthy heart.  Thank you so much.  Thank you.
