Samantha's Angels

Samantha Yelenosky is 9 years old. She is the daughter of our good friends Mitch and Marissa Yelenosky of Bolingbrook, IL.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving she came down with what appeared to be the Flu. When her symptoms wouldn't subside her Mom and Dad took her to the ER. With her blood pressure dropping uncontrollably and her little heart muscle not working, Samantha was put on a respirator and bypass machine. The doctors made the decision to transfer her to Ann & Robert H. Lurie's Children Hospital in Chicago. The doctors at Lurie's have been working tirelessly to help heal Samantha. Her body became septic, her vital organs all being damaged because of it. Her family was told that she is the most critical patient in the hospital.

The Bypass machine has been used to give Sam's heart a rest, give it time to heal in hope it will start to work normally again. While on the bypass machine her legs were not getting proper circulation and it is feared that she may lose her limbs as a result.

Last night at 2:30 am the doctors gave Mitch and Marissa word that little Sam' s heart had started to work. This is a small victory. The hearts help has raised her blood pressure and helped the circulation to her legs. It has also allowed for the doctors to start dialysis (Dialysis will help clean her blood and rid the sepsis from her body). Dialysis is a slow and steady process. The goal though is for her vital organs to regain health and proper function. Today Samantha remains on the Bypass machine and a ventilator as her lungs are not yet functioning. While circulation has improved she will likely lose her right foot as a result of the amount of time that passed without blood flow.

The money that Mark and I raise will help the Yelenosky family pay for Samantha's medical bills including the prosthetic she will likely need when she recovers. We are all praying for her recovery. Sam is a fighter and a beautiful little girl. She has brought an amazing amount of love to all of her family and friends. We appreciate any help you can afford. God Bless.

With Love,
Mark and Christie Mortimer
