Many of you have had the privilege of meeting our
23 year old daughter, Bella Aragon. In November 2016, she began experiencing extreme pain in her chest and neck and knew something was not right. She spent the following months working with several doctors in search of answers. She has had a multitude of scans and tests done including x-rays, a CT scan, MRI, bloodwork, and a fine-needle biopsy. Bella's oncologist has confirmed that there is an egg-sized tumor on her thymus gland, which is located behind the breastbone.
After a recent visit to the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Salt Lake City, Utah Bella's oncologist decided that the tumor must be removed by performing a median sternotomy, which is similar to open-heart surgery and is very invasive. The surgeon will be dividing her breastbone in order to reach the tumor. Bella's surgery is scheduled for July 7th at HCI. A second biopsy will be performed once the tumor has been removed for a definitive diagnosis. Her pre-surgery plan includes holistic treatments, clean eating, exercise and everything else that goes into preparing for pre- and post-surgery.
What we do know: She will need to travel to and from SLC, pay for out of pocket medical expenses, a 5-7 day in hospital stay and will be recovering at home for a minimum of 6-8 weeks. It is possible that part of her post-op treatment plan will include chemo and/or radiation therapy. We will be sure to keep everyone updated as information comes in. Our precious gem has a tough road ahead of her but she is strong! Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our baby.
