On November 23, 2015, Luke Edward Uttberg was born at 26 weeks gestation, weighing just 2 lbs 9ozs. His mother, Angela, had been on hospital bedrest with severe preeclampsia, but alas, the doctors deemed it best for all, for Luke to be born early. Angela had an emergency c-section, during which she nearly died; it was three days before she was able to meet her new itty bitty son.
Little Luke had a very rough start; a few days after birth they tried to take his breathing tube out and he didn't handle it well. When they attempted to put it back in, they accidentally over pressurized his lungs which caused a pneumothorax (both lungs collapsed). After that he was very very sick and had to have tubes put in his lungs to draw out the air. He's MUCH better now, fighting like a champ and both lungs have healed from that. They were able to remove the breathing tube but now he has pneumonia, still holding up strong but he's working hard to breathe.
The Uttberg family is facing MONTHS of multiple daily treks back & forth from their home in East Granby to the NICU in Hartford, where Luke will stay until he is healthy and strong enough to come home. In addition to the hospital grade breast pump rental fees, hospital parking garage fees, and frequent gas fillups, the Uttbergs will be facing lofty medical bills from Angela's bedrest, c-section surgery and recovery AND Luke's undetermined number of tests, procedures, medications and months of NICU care that he is facing.
Angela, Dan, and big brother Lyle are on quite the rollercoaster ride with baby Luke and they could use your support, whether you have the means to give monetarily, or if prayers are all you have to spare. Angela and Dan have expressed their frustrations with not being able to sponsor a child in need this Christmas and are not used to being on the receiving end of help. The communities of East Granby and Granby have been wonderful to the Uttberg family, dropping off meals for them nearly every night since early November. They're so very grateful and are looking forward to some day being able to pay forward all the love and genorisity they have been, and continue to be, shown.
