Medical Brigade to Thailand!

For those of you who do not know, I have been given the amazing opportunity to be a part of an incredible organization called Students HEAL at SDSU where I became the Culture and Activities Outreach Lead. That stands for Health Education Abroad through Leadership. In January 2015, myself, an wonderful team of physicians from Kaiser, and an extraordinary team of 25 nursing students will travel to Thailand for the second year to keep up a sustainable medical brigade where we will provide FREE health care to as many as 200 people every day through public clinics, home visits for those who cannot travel to the clinics, schools with children, and monasteries with young monks. The care includes assessments, pharmacy, a diabetic clinic, dentistry, OBGYN and health education. I am so excited and lucky to be involved with HEAL and for our work we will be accomplishing in Thailand along with the many lives we will be healing!
My position on the leadership board is Culture and Activities Outreach and my job is to prepare our full team about the culture of Thailand, teach medical terms in the Thai language to help with our communication, and to set up team building activities such as community health events in San Diego before we embark on this amazing brigade together.
Students HEAL has a fundraising goal is to raise $17,000, yes seventeen thousand dollars, for medical supplies ranging from the actual medication to materials like syringes, catheters and gloves as well as non medical supplies for the well-being of the people we come into contact with such as shoes and blankets.
The funds collected on this page however don't go to medical supplies. My team and I will have that covered! Instead, they will be going right to me to help pay for my flight, housing, and program fee in order for me to take part in this incredible medical brigade. I will be saving up for this trip as much as possible but being a full-time nursing student and only being able to work during the summer makes it a little more difficult. Honestly anything helps, I could not do this without you and your support so thank you in advance!
