Steven Hedden's Medical Needs

Donation protected
Our sweet 23yr old, Steven Andrew Hedden, was involved in a hit & run accident on March 21st, 2014 while riding his bicycle.  The driver of the vehicle did not stop and he was flung and left, for an unknown period of time, onto the side of the road, fighting for his life.  Steven has sustained severe brain injuries and broken bones in his neck and back, among other things. He has been fighting to survive ever since.

Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle who hit Steven, has not been arrested or charged with this crime which has left this beautiful young man and his family fighting for each day of life he lives. Attached below is the link from the newspaper article regarding this life altering accident.

Steven does not have medical insurance. Currently, we are trying to raise money for the extensive medical bills and unexpected expenditures that Steven will incur due to this atrocity.  At this moment, it is a "minute by minute" waiting game to see what his long term prognosis will be.

Please, please, please, keep him in your prayers and have faith. But if you have anything to spare and would like to donate to his cause, please do so. Please know that every penny will go directly to Steven's medical and living needs and will be managed by his Aunt and his sister.  The hospital he is currently in, is wanting to release him, without further care or aftercare. He is living with a traech in his throat in order to breath, he has a feeding tube in his stomach because he cannot eat or swallow, and he is unable to communicate verbally because his vocal chords have been damaged. He is frustrated, has difficulty walking and continues to have spinal fluid leaking into his brain.

Steven is going to require longterm rehabilitation, yet since he does have a traech, no rehabilitation facility will accept him. Since he doesn't have insurance, he qualified for only 45 days of Medicaid. However, it prorated back to day one. Today is the 65th day that he has spent in the trauma unit of this hospital. He does not have any other insurance as Medicaid has now terminated.

Steven Andrew Hedden is loved by family and friends who are devastated at the thought of him suffering in this manner.  He is a Son, Brother, Grandson, Nephew, Uncle and Friend.  This is a young man who loves to eat pizza and cookies and drink Sprite. He has not had ONE DROP of water, Sprite or one single crumb of food since this happened. He is surviving on a feeding tube.

Its so hard watching this handsome vibrant young man be so helpless. Its hard telling him we can't hear what he's saying. So hard knowing he wants to eat and drink but he can't. So hard not knowing what is in-store for him. So hard not knowing how we are going to get him all the care he needs. So hard watching our sister watch her baby boy and know she's worrying every second about him and what's going to happen next. But Steve is awake and he is alive.  And although he has a tremendous amount of life challenging problems and hurdles, he has a will to move forward.  We can't change the past we can only live for today and take it one moment at a time. Please continue to pray for our boy!

Our family appreciates any support you can provide.

If you have any questions, please email us and we will be honored to answer you.  Thank you for your prayers and faith.

Sincerely,
Steven's Family
