Congressional Art Trip to Washington, DC

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Matthew Bonelli Mayers, I live in Southern California and I will be graduating from high school in 2 weeks. The best part of high school for me were the art classes I had with Mr Talley. I feel like I grew up in his class. Not only did I learn about different mediums and techniques, I learned about myself and how important art is to me. It turns out that art is an endless outlet for creativity, energy, desires and imagination. I am forever grateful to Mr. Talley.
That being said, let me explain why I need your help. It all started late last year when I entered one of my drawings in the Congressional Art Competition for high school students. It's kind of a big deal because the winners are recognized both in their district and at an awards ceremony in Washington, DC. So last week, I'm in my art class and the room starts filling up with people I've never seen before, and my parents! Long story short, Representative for the 36th district, Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz walks in, turns out I won first place in the district! The first place prize is 2 airline tickets to Washington, DC, to attend the award ceremony and tour the U.S. Capitol to see where my picture will be displayed for the next year.
As it stands right now, I can't go. My only income while I'm in school is from the social security I get because my mother is permanently disabled, also why my mom isn't able to help me. I've never traveled like this and I'm not sure exactly what transportation, hotel and meals will cost, but I can assure you that if any money is left over, it will be put to good use. You see I am also finishing Emergency Medical Technician training in June and will need extra money for taking the tests and getting certified and then licenced for EMT, ambulance driver, and Adult Cardiac and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Below is a picture of me and Congressman Ruiz, I'm holding my drawing of a WWII Veteran named Clayton. It's done in charcoal on a 18"x24" brown paper.
