Help bring my Dad home

Donation protected

On the 10th of October my Dad was rushed to hospital after experiencing a severe seizure. We still don’t really know much about why or what caused the seizure as he’s currently hospitalised in China, where he moved several years ago to pursue a career in teaching.

For the past couple of months he’s been bed bound, in a coma and on a ventilator after he contracted a severe lung infection. He has made some steps towards recovery and was taken off the ventilator a couple of weeks ago.

So far, my Dads health insurance has covered the cost of the medical treatment he has received, however in China you are expected to provide the food, hygiene products, bed linen, towels and hospital gowns for the duration of your stay in hospital. So far my grandparents have spent £9000 out of their pension just to cover these basic provisions. They have also had to pay for someone to provide daily care for him, feeding him, and giving bed baths etc, as nursing staff aren’t provided in the hospital.  His insurance is due to run out in the next couple of weeks and my grandparents will be expected to pay anywhere between £300 and £500 per day to continue his care in hospital.

We are frantically planning to get my Dad back to the UK and our only option so far is to have him flown on a commercial flight with a flight medic in first or business class to allow him to lie down - this is going to cost approximately £90,000.

The closest airport that has flights to the UK is in Hong Kong. So he will require a flight to Hong Kong first. Then he will fly from Hong Kong to Germany, then from Germany to Manchester.

Because of the COVID restrictions and regulations the trip will require 3 separate flight medics, as each medic cannot fly into one country and then out again. They'll also be required to self-isolate for 2 weeks, hence the extortionate costs.

I cannot bear to think what will happen to my Dad if he has to remain in China (especially without insurance)  so we are absolutely desperate to get him back home.

So my plea to you is to ask for any donation, no matter how small which will help to cover the costs of repatriation and get my Dad back home safely.

I have set the target at half of the amount because £90,000 seems impossible but in all honesty ANYTHING we can raise will be more than appreciated.

Thank you!
