Donations for The Featherston Family

11/26/2021

On November 26, 2021 around 7:15pm our sweet Ben went to be with the Angels in Heaven. After his crash on Tuesday the 23rd, his body could not physically recover. We are thankful that God gave us the extra days so that everyone he loved could say goodbye. Yesterday was such an incredible show of love as dozens of friends and loved ones visited with Ben. They shared their wonderful stories of Ben with us and told him goodbye, and we are so thankful that he could hear their voices again.

Ben was with us for 19 amazing love filled years.  Through this journey our amazing friends and family have surrounded us with love and support.  Ben knew this and it gave him comfort.  We were also blessed with world class health care from Beaumont to Houston that gave us precious time to talk and love Ben.   If you know Ben, he loved his friends unconditionally.   Ben stays with us, he is with us.  “ To infinity and Beyond.”

11/7/21 Update:
Overall, Ben is showing small signs of improvement. Sepsis (infection in his blood) is getting under control.  Slowly weaning off meds (pressors) that have kept his blood pressure stable. Liver function is slightly improving. But, have not been able to resume nasogastric feeding due to intermittent bleeding from his stomach.  His kidneys still need continuous dialysis.  One of our biggest challenges is ICU delirium as Ben has now been in the ICU for 39 days which causes significant issues with confusion & inability to sleep. This requires continuous re-orientation as well as getting day & nighttime straight for Ben.  On a very positive note, Ben has been able to resume Physical Therapy as he is now more stable & did not lose some of the strength he had shown us prior to his last surgery. I think we can say we are cautiously optimistic that Ben is on the road to recovery! As always, thank you for your love & prayers ❤️

For Ben, this weekend has been a time of rest and stabilization in preparation for a big surgery tomorrow. As y’all know, Ben’s body remains in a state of instability which is preventing his liver & kidneys from recovering. This instability is coming from his legs which were severely injured from lack of blood flow from cardiogenic shock when Ben’s illness started on 9/29/21. Now, 32 days later, his legs have not been able to recover despite numerous debridements & surgeries.  And, as his legs worsen, they release toxins into his body that keep his blood pressure unstable & keep his liver and kidneys very sick. This is very much a life or death situation. The only solution in stopping this viscous cycle is amputation. Ben will have both legs amputated above the knee tomorrow.  Ben is aware of the situation and has shown strength beyond his  age.  We have told him he has an army of Drs and nurses fighting for him and a second army of friends and family fighting for him and lastly, God’s army surrounding him.  His fight  continues  to amaze us!Thank you for your continued love & prayers.   Ben needs them now more than ever!

At first it was believed that Ben Featherston (19 year old pre-med major at The Univ of Texas) had gotten a stomach bug and could not shake it.  As it turned out some type of pathogen caused Ben to become critically ill and transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston on life support.
Currently,  Ben is off life support, but remains in critical condition as doctors try to identify and treat his illness.
The Featherston’s are so appreciative of the incalculable love and support pouring in.   Ben has used a large amount of donated blood and any donations to re-supply the blood supply is greatly appreciated.  Prayers are also working for Ben, please keep them coming.
There have been many offers of money to assist with the Featherston’s medical expenses.   These offers are incredibly generous and will be directly utilized to offset medical expenses at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Again, the Featherston family sends their love and great thanks for all the help.  Thanks for being on the GoBenTeam!
