Erick's Fight Against Cystic Fibrosis

Living with cystic fibrosis means living with fear, uncertainty, and doubt. Erick Bauer and his wife Stefanie face the realities of this fatal disease everyday.
Despite the fact that the media life expectancy for a CF patient is only 49 years, Erick has managed to graduate from university, get married, buy a home, start his MBA on a part-time basis, and established a successful career in marketing. Unfortunately over the last few years Erick's health has significantly declined. He has been forced to endure several lengthy hospital stays and in 2013 was hospitalized for a severe lung infection, after which he was forced to take 5 months off of work to receover only to end up back in the hospital again 6 months later.
The loss of income associated with being unable to work for prolonged periods of time has been further complicated by the fact that Erick and Stefanie have also been forced to pay out of pocket for a number of specialized medications and treatments that are not covered under their insurance plan.
Like most other young couples, they would also like to start a family in the near future; however, since CF patients cannot conceive naturally, the couple will be forced to bear the exubert cost of invitrofertilization, which can range from $20,000-$50,000.
The financial burden caused by CF has been significant and will undoubtedly increase as Erick gets older and his health inevitably continues to decline.
