Help Linda Walk Again

My sister Linda got extremely sick a few years ago with an immune condition (MCAS).

All of a sudden she was no longer able to take care of herself, she was bedridden and in constant pain. The condition made her react to everything in her surroundings including the very medications she needed. She started reacting to more and more things. Most foods were now off the table but everyday things too like shampoo, toothpaste, fabric softener, cleaning products and so much more. She just kept getting sicker and sicker.

Linda’s life was completely turned upside down and she lost everything. 

Linda is a bright and bubbly person that used to love travelling, reading, spending time in nature and hanging out with friends, family and her dog.  When she got sick she was no longer able to do any of those things anymore. She also lost her dream job working for a charity in the UK and she had to leave her whole life behind which was so heartbreaking. She had to leave her home, her partner of 15 years and her much loved dog to move back to Denmark and get full time care from our mum.

One day back in March she woke up and could no longer stand up, let alone walk. 

In addition to everything Linda had already been through, she all of a sudden could no longer stand up as she would get the most excruciating pain and bleeding in her legs. It literally happened overnight from one day to the next. It was a scary time for us all as no one knew what was going on. She was eventually admitted to hospital and was treated for a life threatening condition which is all better now thankfully. But her legs are still not completely back to normal and she is still in a wheelchair. 

Linda has been working hard in rehab to get back to being able to walk again. Unfortunately the rehab offered since coming home from hospital is not sufficient enough for her needs. She has lost most of the progress she made whilst in hospital. Linda's only hope of walking again is to seek out private physical therapy and additional treatment for her legs.

She can’t get to the doctor, dentist or any other appointments. Only way to get her down the stairs is to hire a specialist disability transport company that has access to a portable stair climber which is very costly as you can imagine. She can only get help with transport to hospitals as her disability is hopefully temporary.

There are no Specialist Doctors for Linda’s immune condition in Denmark 

She was diagnosed just before she left the UK and has not been able to get help with the immune condition since moving back to Denmark. No one specialises in this condition here and her UK doctor has since retired. She has been unable to tolerate the medication to manage the condition and there are no other medications available she can try in Denmark or the UK. She therefore needs to see a specialist doctor abroad who can help to run more tests and provide treatment which all has to be paid for out of pocket. 

It has been an uphill struggle for Linda and she truly has endured more than most.

She gets severe reactions that make her very sick. She has lived on just 3 blended foods for the past 2 years. She has lost more than half her teeth due to jawbone infection. 5 painful surgeries on her jaw in less than a year. Suffering from excruciating pain from where the infection has damaged the nerves. And that’s only a part of the story there’s so much more. Too much to include here.

I am amazed how she keeps on fighting and never giving up, always pushing forward. Linda is a true inspiration as she always does her best to keep her spirits up and remain positive throughout it all.

Linda does not like talking about her struggles and it's not in her nature to ask for help. 

She is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I know. Always doing whatever she can to help others even while going through all of her own struggles. So I have created this page on her behalf so she can get the help she so desperately needs. 

Linda hasn't been able to work for several years now and all of the medical bills are adding up. Our family has been helping financially and my mum even took out her pension early to pay for treatments. But funds have run low and we are nowhere near the finish line yet. 

With your help we can give Linda a chance to get out of that wheelchair and allow her to get treatment abroad for her immune condition.
