The Snyder Homestead needs your help

We are the Snyders and people know us as the Snyder Homestead. We, Josh and Sarah Snyder have 5 children, Ben 10, Emma 9 (Special Needs), Morgan 7, Caleb 5 and Gideon who is 3. Josh is an ER Tech at Mainland Hospital in Galloway, NJ, who is currently enrolled in nursing school and is due to graduate in May. I, Sarah, am a retired NJ State Trooper, who is now a stay at home mom and homesteader. We are known for our hospitality, for helping people in need and as the family that is fun, adventurous and works hard. For the past 7 years we have lived in a small 100 year old farm house on 7.5 acres, with farm animals and all. We have used our property for our annual campout and various other events including a men and women’s conference. From the beginning we wanted our property to be used as a safe haven for anyone that needed to restore their soul, renew their minds and refresh their hearts. However, that’s become a bit of a problem in 2020.
2020 has affected many people for very different reasons and we were no different. If you ask our family and friends they would say our 2020 has been like the life of Job. A man who lost everything, but still remained faithful to our amazing God. This year has definitely tested our faith and continues to do so. This year we not only faced the trials that have come with the Covid pandemic, but in June we were also in a car accident which left our suburban totaled and our son Benjamin and I with injuries. This caused us to have to purchase a used car, leading to a car payment that we were not ready for.
In August as a result of the tropical storm the top of our house was twisted from the high winds, causing the second floor, floor joists to come loose from the cinderblock walls. This caused the center of our house to begin to collapse. We contacted the insurance company and filed a claim due to the storm damage, however after appealing, the insurance company still denied our claim. The insurance company stated that the house is just settling, therefore they would not cover the damage. We contacted lawyers to initiate litigation against the insurance company, however due to Covid it would take up to 4-5 years to complete litigation and a large amount of lawyer fees, which we simply can not afford. The insurance company’s emergency response team also said that our house was a ticking time bomb and that we should move out. So in September, the seven of us moved out of our home and are currently living in a small camper on our property. We emptied the contents of our home into a storage container and have had structural engineers and contractors look at the house. They stated that we would have to gut the entire house in order to make it structurally sound and safe for us to move back in.
Our routines have been disrupted, our emotions are like a roller coaster and we are physically and mentally exhausted. Their has been many conversations about what to do, but with Josh in nursing school and me being retired on disability, we simple do not have the funds necessary to rebuild. Various contractors have stated that it would cost around $200,000 - $250,000 to just rebuild the 2,050 sq. ft. home that we have. Due to Covid, the prices of lumber are through the roof and the availability of materials is in short supply.
With this said, we need your help. If you feel lead to be a blessing financially, it would be greatly appreciated and bring us such joy. It’ll allow the Snyder Homestead to get back to serving our community, being a safe haven for others and to have a safe home for us to live in.
