Operation Restoration

I am pleased to be placed at this juncture in my life and I do so with great humility. My name is Justin Smith, a 20-year old, sophomore at Saint John's University in Collegeville, MN. I come from an island nation called The Bahamas and grew up in an inner city community of Nassau.

As a you man growing up in an urban community, I have witnessed first hand the many social ills that plague the people of my community.  I know first hand of the many people who cannot access food or food assistance from the Department of Social Services and there is no other option for food to feed their families. I have seen mothers who are desperate and suffering and are at their wits end; especially at times when their children get sick from eating spoiled and rotten food because their is no refrigeration. I have watched the terrible occurrences that have happened at hospitals and the deterioration of loved ones who are captured in a failing health care system.  I have seen my fellow young people, beating the pavements following every lead to find access to work and opportunity, while fighting a sinking morale each day.

And today, I pledge to be the change that I want to see in m,y community. I refuse to sit by knowing that our social safety net is filled with holes, and are people are falling through mercilessly. Recently, I have launched a spade of community service initiatives with the primary goal of improving the conditions and quality of lives for residents in my community. Most notably, on Christmas Day, my Team and I fed the residents of the Coconut Grove and Big Pond Communities through our 100 Plates for Christmas Food Distribution. Also, I can boast of our #OperationSOS program which funded school books, bags, supplies and haircuts for many at risk young boys last August.

This March, I have decided to dedicate my Spring Break solely to community service. It is my aim to feed 2,000 primary school students throughout the week March 1st-8th with my #BreakfastBeforeBooks program and secondly to host an onsite community clean up and sustainability event, which will be aimed at improving the deterioration conditions of some homes in our community.

However, I cannot do it all along. It is with a spirit of meekness, that I humbly ask you to donate to this cause and help me bring real help and meaningful change to the lives of so many people, who feel left out and forgotten.

The fundraising goal is $5,000.  We are called to help those in need, may God enrich you has you bless others.
