A Home Run for Rodger

Donation protected
What started out as just a cough, turned into a person's worst fear. A week before Christmas, Rodger Vandenbroek (Troy, Shannon, & Kristi's dad) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. Something that was completely unexpected. Rodger has led a very healthy lifestyle... former collegiate athlete, *NON-SMOKER*, healthy eater and even now, went to the gym 3 nights a week.

With the utmost support of family and friends, Rodger began seeking out the best possible treatment. Initially, his first oncologist told him to "just go enjoy his Christmas vacation and to start treatment afterwards." When returning from vacation, hoping to find some answers, we were disappointed to see that his doctor had not begun a plan of attack for his cancer.

With precious time already wasted, Rodger decided to seek a second opinion... and good thing he did! Rodger met with doctors at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL where they were eager to help. Within no time, doctors began aggressively treating his cancer, scheduling rounds of Chemotherapy. His new doctors also discovered that because his first doctor told him, basically, "not to worry, go enjoy time off" his cancer had spread to his bones. Again, another reason it was smart to seek a second opinion!

Chemotherapy is very rough on a person's body and spirit BUT with just three rounds completed, Rodger's cancer has already shrunk BY MORE THAN HALF!

Rodger continues to eat and live healthy. His entire family has joined in the effort to exercise and live healthy lifestyles. Rodger doesn't sit at home and sulk... he is out fishing, watching sporting events (Troy's College baseball games) enjoying date nights with his wife :) and spending time with his family and ADORABLE grandson!

Rodger is doing great with the help of treatment but he is not out of the woods yet.... It is still a very long road ahead and treating cancer is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE! That being said we have secretly started this GOFUNDME account in hopes to raise money to cover expenses for treatment. Rodger does not know about this account, so shh ;)... we are hoping to surprise him after the benefit we are throwing on Wednesday, July 16th!

With the help of family and close friends, we are throwing a great benefit!! *Please see flyer in uploaded photos above for more information on "A Night Out at the Ballpark", a baseball-themed benefit where his son , Troy along with fellow baseball teammates will be playing a baseball game!

We love you all and hope that you can come out and enjoy this benefit with us!!!!

With Love,
