Service Learning in Thailand

Donation protected
This summer through Boston University's Sargent College of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation I have been given the opportunity to travel to Thailand with their annual Service Learning trip. With an emphasis on interdisciplinary learning, I will be accompanied by students who represent all the majors in Sargent College. Our time in Thailand will be split between three cities: Bangkok, Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai, with the majority of our service and learning being conducted in the jungle villages of Chiang Rai. Boston University is partnering with an NGO called the Mirror Foundation. The Mirror Foundation represents Thai ethnic minorities who are denied health care due to their lack of citizenship. In conjunction with the Mirror Foundation we will be traveling to various villages in Chiang Rai to learn of the challenges in administering health care to the minorities, spending time in local schools teaching proper hygiene techniques, working with local government and medical professionals in clinical settings to assist with basic health check ups, and learning how traditional medicine is filling in the gaps in Northern Thailand.

Sargent College's goal is to expand the scope of  our health care focused learning with real world application and service. I feel privileged to have been given this unique opportunity to interact with patients and health care professionals on a global level.

Like just about everything else in life, this trip costs a significant amount of money. I am reaching out to all of you in hopes that you can help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,900. The money will be used towards my flights and the other expenses required for the trip. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated! Your contribution will have a lasting impact on minority populations in Northern Thailand.

I cannot stress enough how important this trip is to me. The first hand experience to learn from my peers, professors, Mirror Foundation members, and people of Thailand is one that I know will have a lasting impact on my education and future in the health care profession.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
