Elaine's College Fund

My name is Elaine McClain-Rowe, and I'm a freshman at High Point University in North Carolina. I hope to obtain a Ph.D. someday, but my first step is to get my Bachelor's degree in Women's and Gender Studies. Originally, I had entered college looking to major in biochemistry. However, I have discovered that while I still want to change the world for a better, I don't want to do so from in a lab. I would rather work, as a professor or an advocate, to end the discrimination and prejudice that so many people face in their lives. I know there is a long, hard road ahead of me. Earning a Ph.D. will be no small feat. However, I am excited to continue on to a life of learning. I hope that this scholarship can help me get to that future. I can be courageous in the face of failure, of hardship, of strain, if I have this great future to look to. I can and will reach this great goal of mine. I know that I cannot do it alone, however. Therefore I hope to be able to take these slow steps towards my dream. Isaac Newton once said, “If I have seen further than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants”, and I know that will be true for me, as well. Thank you for helping me see further.
