Amazon Educational Program

Here is a link to the organization's program.

Dear family, friends, and friends of friends, I am humbled and honored to share with you that I have been selected by the Amazona Sustainable Foundation (FAS) to attend their 2014 Summer Environmental Education Program in the heart of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. FAS is a well respected, national NGO dedicated to promoting environmental conservation of the Amazon, building sustainable economic production, and improving the quality of life for the people who reside there.

Those who know me are aware that I have always been passionate about a variety of environmental issues, for one simple reason. Our natural environment provides everything necessary for our well being and this type of dependent relationship requires responsible devotion. I believe that implementing sustainable practices and policies are essential to conserving our natural resources, eradicating poverty, promoting health, and reconciling rapid population and economic growth.

The Amazona Summer program is a unique opportunity that will further develope my skill base and provide an invaluable experience in what will be the core of my life's work - to work as an advocate with poor, rural and indigenous communities in Latin America on economic, education and social issues. Domestically, I plan to work for the implementation of policies which support the environment and sustainable development. On the ground in Brazil, I will learn practical research methods to gauge the environmental impacts on the local population, and also design and implement practical, cost-effective sustainability projects.
Finally, I will gain a deeper understanding of the ecology and peoples of the Amazon region.

I have been granted a partial scholarship to attend the 3-5 week program, however, I still need to raise $3,000 for the balance of tuition, room and meal costs, and travel expenses. I humbly and respectfully ask for any assistance you can provide. It is a privilege to be a part of a community who may understand the value of promoting this kind of learning and action for our planet, and I do not make a proposal like this lightly. I believe in the power of humans to stop and reverse the dangerous path we have been on, and this work is just so terribly important, I am compelled to make this request. The deadline for my goal is July 15th. A financial contribution at any level would be tremendously significant in fulfilling this mission of mine and I will be thoroughly grateful, as well as inspired, by your thoughtfulness.

Thank you for your time spent reading about my plans and considering my request. In addition to the advancement in my own career path, this is a rare opportunity for me to be a part of something special, to help affect the Amazon peoples in a positive way.
Please feel free to share my campaign with your friends. Here's hoping to get to Brazil and work for the Amazon!

May the forest be with you :)
Warm Regards,
Amy Connolly
