Taking My Life Back!

This fundraiser is to help my friend, who is going through a horrific divorce, after going through a nightmare marriage. She has had such a bumpy road in her life. The trauma that incurred, it’s like watching a horror movie play.

Through torment of her marriage, She had no place / position to advocate or speak up for anything. She was manipulated and lied to - just so her ex-husband can cover up a lot of what he didn’t want her to find out. He took such power over her life and took advantage of her vulnerable state. He created debt, financial burdens, and a whole feeling of insecurities. As the weeks and a few months pass by since being separated, more things are coming to the light that she never knew. Things he hid from her, like credit card debt, that was under her name, that was taken out unauthorized. He maxed out multiple credit cards that were under her name and placed her in debt of nearly $60k- $80k just of credit cards alone. There are likely more unrevealed deficits to arise, as the truth becomes apparent.

The credit cards ended up in collections, and then taken to court. Without her knowledge, the court hearings took place, and judgement was set to have her owe the money to the credit card companies. So all this money owed, needs to be paid, despite the debt being caused by her ex-husband's scandalous actions. On top of that he caused back bills on Mortgage (causing it to be in foreclosure), back pay in utilities, ect. The debt doesn’t end, and is becoming very apparent now.

My friend has documented health issues, which prohibit full time employment; she is currently working part time. Due to debilitating medical issues and being immunocompromised, her employment options are limited.

She is an amazing mom of two beautiful young children, that she has sole custody for. She is working very hard caring for her children, having health obstacles, and being able to adjust and rebuild her life. Despite her endless efforts of getting her life back, and trying to normalize the current situation for her kids, the debt combined with her income limits the ability to fully allocate needs, and other expenses. With a long and troublesome history in the marriage, this added strain causes being unable to move on and completely disconnect herself from her ex-husband. She currently has support from friends, Rabbi's, and local institutions that recognize the need to fundraise and be cleared of the financial obligations of this debt. Her divorce attorney acknowledges that this is one of the messiest divorce proceedings that she has ever seen, and that the discovery of this debt puts an additional strain on moving forward. During mediation, her ex refuses to take responsibility for his conduct to rectify the financial obligations.

My friend, after such a long road with her marriage, just wants to move forward and not look back. Her ex has taken so much power and control in her life, and now she is just seeking a normal life, and not to have her ex husband running her future down.

But she needs help to pay the bills/ debt to walk away and feel like her past is haunting her from moving forward.
