Help me volunteer in South Africa!

Hi! My name is Hannah Jones. I am 17 years old  and live in St. Louis, Missouri.

In January 2015, I hope to go to South Africa to volunteer through African Impact! I love kids, and have been volunteering  for many years. What started out as bi-weekly carer at my  church’s Sunday school has turned into an exciting part of my life: working with children!  I am an active volunteer at The St. Louis Crisis Nursery, a weekly teacher & group leader at my Sunday School, a babysitter and nanny to many families, and even a member of The St. Louis Crisis Nursery’s Junior Board.

 My love of serving continued to grow after being accepted to join the National Honor Society last year. I really enjoyed serving at various events  in the area and lifting up spirits in the community.  Volunteering abroad has been my dream for a long time, and I am blessed to say that I am in the process of making this dream come true. 

I have chosen to volunteer through African Impact because of their partnership with The Happy Africa Foundation and the great need that exists in the particular areas that African Impact is located. After talking to other volunteers who completed a  trip through this company, I knew African Impact was the right choice for me. My accommodations will be basic yet very safe, which is what I am looking for. My goal in South Africa is not to enjoy a relaxing vacation, but to spend my time there taking care of the children in the community, and supporting them in any way I can. The two project sites I will be serving at are located in Cape Town and St. Lucia. Both cities present with a high percentage of the community impacted by HIV, causing many to fall ill and numerous children becoming orphaned. These children deserve as much love and affection as any other child, but unfortunately, due to the low resources of the orphanages in these areas, they are not always getting this. I hope to touch the lives of as many kids as possible through education resources, care, kindness, and positive energy.

I have managed to save some money to fund my trip by working multiple babysitting jobs over the summer. My parents are also helping out with a generous cash donation. I will use any additional money that has been  donated to my cause to help pay for airfare, room and board while volunteering.  If I'm fortunate enough to exceed my goal, I'll use any extra money to provide much needed supplies directly to the orphanages.


 I believe that we are all God’s children, and that every child deserves to be loved and nurtured. Please help me to serve the children of South Africa in any way that you can.
