Clarinet Repair Volunteer Trip to Africa

I am privileged to be joining the Clarinets for Conservation team this summer in Tanzania, Africa. This is a wonderful, non profit organization I recently connected with. The African Blackwood Tree is used in making woodwind and stringed instruments. It's sustainability is of great importance to us all as musicians, music lovers, earth lovers and humanitarians.
Clarinets for Conservation promotes awareness of conserving Mpingo (African Blackwood or Grenadilla) by actively engaging students and the community with the power of music.
Teaching secondary students in Tanzania to play the clarinet empowers them by improving problem-solving skills, facilitating self-sufficiency, and by providing a healthy creative outlet.
Students and C4C teachers take part in innovative interdisciplinary performances/tree plantings throughout Tanzania to help connect the clarinet and the tree it is made of, Mpingo, with the community–therefore fostering a sincere desire for a sustainable future.
C4C Teaching artists work daily with students of Korongoni Secondary School, teaching music and performance skills. In addition, C4C partners with conservationists Sebastian Chuwa of The African Blackwood Conservation Project and Samweli Mochuwa of Kiviwama Indigenous Trees.
C4C and partner conservationists work together in the community, performing tree planting programs at schools and orphanages and collaborative community events to raise awareness about Tanzania's valuable natural resources.
In 2013, C4C teaching artists and conservationists created a new partnership with the Police Academy in Moshi, Tanzania. The Police Academy is responsible for training future police, military, and community leaders who will work throughout Tanzania. C4C has made a partner – promise to send educators to the Police Academy to help further their mission to promote peace and unity in the country. In return, the Police Academy has promised to protect the hundreds of African Blackwood trees which have been planted on the Police Academy Grounds, and to teach their troops about the value of those trees. Five students of the 2014 Clarinets for Conservation class at Korongoni Secondary School will be chosen to work full-time with the Police Academy Band!
While there I will be repairing all the clarinets, which are are in dire need! I will also be setting up a repair shop and training future technicians at the Moshi Police Academy to ensure further sustainability.
*I am now raising money for instrument repair supplies including pads, cork, screw, parts, etc. I will also bring a shop full of instrument repair tools. I am also hoping to bring instruments and accesoires. As you may or may not know, I've embarked on many adventures, and am beyond thrilled to continue the global instrument repair trek!
