Expenses for Team Amelia

Donation protected

Amelia Marie was born May 10 with a condition known as pulmonary hypertension, which didn't allow blood to flow through her lungs to be oxygenated.

The staff at St. Joseph's  in Lewiston, Idaho worked for about five hours to save her life, even when they thought all was lost. Amelia stabilized and was air lifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington, about 100 miles away, in critical condition where she was put on extracorporeal mechanical oxygenation (ECMO) to provide her body with oxygen.

Because of the blood thinners and anticoagulants needed to keep her blood flowing through the ECMO unit, Amelia suffered some internal bleeding, which doctors were able to stop. That was followed by collapsed lungs, one of which has fully recovered, the other is still having some issues.

On May 16, while attempting to scope Emmy's lungs, doctors ran into a blockage in her trachea, some type of stenosis. A CAT scan the following day showed the constriction, and the cause of her breathing problems. Currently, specialists across the country are being consulted to decide the best course of action to clear the constriction.

Through it all, this newborn girl has shown a stubborn will to live and has fought and clawed her way through her first week of life in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). She'll spend about two to three more weeks in the hospital according doctors' estimates.

Expenses are mounting for the family of this little warrior. Please help by joining "Team Amelia" with your donation and by sharing her story with your friends and family.
