Kenny's Graduation/Car Fund

I am starting this fund to raise money for my son, Kendrick Calkins. He will be graduating from Castro Valley High School this year, and I would like to try and surprise him with a car and/or a decent sum of money as a graduation gift and to help him as he starts college. I don't have very much money to do this by myself, and I also know that many friends and family members may want to give him a gift for graduation, so I figured this might be a good way to combine all of our efforts together for maximum impact. I want to attempt to keep this as a surprise, so please don't mention it to him at this time.
Kendrick works very hard in school and is becoming an outstanding young man. He has mostly honors classes and as of now has a cumulative 3.86 GPA. He is also in choir and has worked at Youth Radio in Oakland over the last year or so. He recently started working at our corner coffee shop, and actually volunteered to work for free just to learn. His boss loves him and can't say enough good things about him. He is looking to major in computer science in college, and he wants to eventually start a career in a related field. He will be going to a local college in the Fall that is very hard to get to via public transit, so I am really hoping to somehow get him into a reliable car.
Kenny is not the type of guy who is spoiled or feels entitled, or expects things to be done for him or given to him. He is very appreciative of what he has and what he receives, and he rarely asks for much. I would love to be able to give him a nice reward for all of his hard work, especially because he isn't expecting anything.
Every little bit counts. He/we will appreciate any token that you are willing or able to add to this effort. Also, please leave a note for him if you want. I will direct him to this page later so that he can read what everyone wrote.
