Flood Assistance

Donation protected

This is my friend Joseph Otieno Ondijo. He lives in a small village near Kisimu, Kenya. His area has been ravaged by floods. This year has been the worst, and flood season is expected to be more intense into the future with climate change.

That is his home behind him in the picture. It is mud and stick built, which does not stand a chance against heavy, wet weather. This is the second home he has built in three years.

My hope is to raise funds for Joseph to build a home with a raised foundation, to protect against future floods and provide him and his family with reasonable shelter. He has recently had a new baby, and it would be nice for them to have a house made of sturdy materials, raised off the ground by about three feet or more. Any money left over would go towards furnishing the house, food, etc.  Their current home is 20ft. x 20ft, but it is hoped that the square footage could be expanded.

The cost of building such a home is estimated to be between $1000 and $1500, depending on material costs and final design.

Joseph is currently pursuing a career in IT, but the Covid-19 virus has closed his school. He helps on his father's small farming property, where his home is located. However, the floods have impacted the productivity. Typically, they raise sugar cane, rice, and some various fruit trees.

If you would help Joseph and his family, it would be greatly appreciated and an act of great kindness.
