Mon Oct 21 (8:20pm): Well folks I like to think I'm independent and can take care of my responsibilities. But this is unexpected and I'm appealing to you for some assistance. It's been a difficult decision to make. My cat "Loki" won't be the same without his big bushy tail.
The surgery will also include dental extractions (which I found out about three weeks ago - teeth being re-absorbed). However, Vet #1 est = $1,800 just for the teeth! (Yikes! I needed time to think it over.)
Today he was seen by Vet #2 - with his broken tail, and they gave me a price (amputation AND dental) all in one go. Thank goodness!
Grand total = $1,260. + $230 today for his exam, antibiotics and pain meds.
Total = $1,490.
(dental portion = $404.75)

Mon Oct 23 (6:30pm): Loki's surgery is set for Friday October 25. Look at him... he's hugging his beautiful, big, fluffy tail.
Mon Oct 23 (5pm): I took Loki to Beacon Cat Hospital (vet #2) today and they shaved his tail to get a better look.
Loki was bitten on the tail and has a fractured vertebra. It's not likely he will gain control of it again.
He's on antibiotics and painkillers.
If Loki can't lift his tail, it will interfere with balance, bowel function and urination. The vet wants to amputate.
I'm very upset. I know he needs the surgery and of course, it's expensive.
I don't want to risk him being unhealthy because I didn't do the right thing.
Sun Oct 19 (8:53pm): Poor Loki has injured himself ☹.
I came home Saturday evening to find his tail drooping.
He doesn't seem to be in pain but has difficulty crouching to rest. He sways his hindquarters to get his tail out of the way before he can sit down.
No bleeding or lacerations just a bit of swelling about 4 inches up from the base of his tail.
My first thought was, it got caught in a door, but I don't know how that would happen. Or someone may have tried to grab him and caught his tail. Or practicing his Daredevil tricks like jumping off the roof and landing on my cedar fence. He isn't always graceful in his landing.
He slept last night with me on the couch, to watch his sleep pattern. He got lots of rest and I got less.
