The Providence School Department is currently serving up to 22,000 free ‘Grab & Go’ meals per week to school-children and their families on Tuesdays and Fridays at public schools across the City. The meals are free and available to anyone in need making this a great opportunity to help feed those members of our community most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic who are having a hard time finding a meal for themselves and their families.
ROOMS & WORKS, KNEAD and Providence Kitchen Collaborative (PKC) are partnering as the Cromwell Lunch Ladies to help them feed even more people in need of a meal during these challenging times.
Our goal is to deliver up to 600 meals a week to The Providence School Department at a designated pick-up location in the West Side. With your help, we hope to continue this effort for as long as it's necessary and be able to provide up to 1,000 meals a week in the coming weeks.
Starting the week of April 27th, Cromwell Lunch Ladies will be firing up PKC's kitchens in the West Side to start cooking up nourishing packaged meals. PKC is providing free access to its commercial kitchen space to culinary members including HG80 , Brown Paper Bounty , Solid Gold , Weenie Wizard , Black Beans PVD & Big Feeling who, in turn, will be lending their culinary chops to make delicious meals!
Through current donations made by ROOMS & WORKS, we'll be able to deliver the first 500 meals; however, with your help, we'll be able to feed many more mouths over the coming weeks. Each meal will cost us approximately $5 to prepare and deliver to the school’s distribution site. A $20 donation will supply 4 meals, a $40 donation will supply 8 meals, etc. Not only will your donation help feed the kids and those in need, it will also help some of Providence’s coolest small food start-ups get back in the kitchen by providing them a much-needed work opportunity.
We understand there are many fundraisers out there for other worthy causes. If you cannot donate, please consider spreading the word by sharing this initiative through social media with friends and family and on your social channels to help us spread the word. If you can, we are humbled by and thank you for your support!
