Help Fix Mr. Moxie's Broken Leg

Donation protected
It's crazy how terrible things can happen to the people who deserve it least. My sister Janine is one of those people: quick to offer her help and the last person to ask for it. Which is why I am asking on her behalf.

Janine runs a website called Dogster.com that aims to help people be better pet parents. Often, they feature pets in need, and my sister never dreamed her own dog would join their ranks. The light of her life is Mr. Moxie, a rambunctous five-year-old Italian Greyhound and star of the Dogster Instagram. Her love for him is best documented in this video her company shot a few years ago:

Yesterday, Mr. Moxie took a flying leap from a third-story window in San Francisco's Outer Sunset neighborhood and landed hard on the concrete below. Janine was out to lunch with a friend, and Mox, ever the co-dependent creature, thought he could follow her. She returned from lunch to a scene outside her friend's home: neighbors were on the ground surrounding a small, crippled dog and there was blood on the pavement.

She ran the remaining block to the house, and saw that it was her own dog, with his paw caught in his collar, the ligaments twisted in a frightening 180-degree angle. He was bruised, but breathing and in shock; miraculously alive after such a fall. They rushed him to the closest animal emergency room.

As of this writing, Moxie is undergoing his second surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery, but his vet bills are estimated to be as high as $14,000. Already Janine has put over half of that on her credit cards to cover the initial costs. Mox is expected to spend another night at the emergency clinic post-surgery, and the longer he stays there, the higher the costs climb.

If I had the means, I would pay Mr. Moxie's bills myself. But I am your traditional starving student. And so I turn to you, friends, family and well-meaning strangers on the Internet. If you can spare anything at all to help Mr. Moxie run again, our family will be firmly in your debt.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
