Hi my name is Jamie UrbanI. I'm 19 yrs old and my awesome boyfriend is Tyler Houghton, 20 yrs old. On January 20, 2014 Tyler was in a terrible car accident on I-94 on his way to his new job at 6:00am. The driver that hit him slid on black ice, & his leg was severed. Tyler was rushed to the hospital where doctors worked vigilantly- first to save his life, then to reattach his leg. The doctors felt that their was a good chance of saving Tyler's leg and for the next 7 days, while he was in an induced coma, Tyler underwent 7 surgeries, the last surgery being to amputate the leg, as the doctors realized unfortunately that it was not going to make it. When Tyler finally awoke from his coma, 9 days after the accident, and on his 20th birthday, he was without his right leg. What was his reaction? He thanked the doctors for saving his life & was thankful to be alive.
Once Tyler was well enough to leave the hospital, he was moved to a rehabilitation center to get help with adjusting to life as an amputee, and 3 months after the accident, he was ready to come home.
Before the accident, Tyler was a very active 19 year old kid with his whole life ahead of him. Graduated from high school, just starting a new job, he loved playing sports & hanging out with his family and his many friends. He is doing amazingly well. His family and I are very proud of his attitude and the progress he has made. But Tyler's greatest wish is for a prosthetic leg so that he can feel normal again & do the things he loves do. Unfortunately the driver that hit him did not have insurance, and a prosthetic leg is not cheap. Please share Tyler's story with everyone you know.
