Hi Friends and Family of the Rishers! Here is a way to send donations to help Kacey's upcoming surgery. Hello friends! Our unstoppable Kacey has hit a speed bump we would like to share with you. Cancer free continues to be our status. AMEN! It's our rock star's healthy bones that need some attention now. When we first learned of the rotationplasty option we learned that it was very possible that because of chemotherapy the bones involved might decide not to fuse together. The video from the Mayo Clinic teaching us about the surgery says it's typical. So, that's where we're at! Kacey's bones have not healed, have not grown together, and the plate that has been holding them together in the meantime has started to fail. She is not uncomfortable at all times but has been experiencing pain more frequently. An appointment with surgeon Dr. Loveless this morning explained the next steps. Kacey will undergo an additional surgery. A bone graft will be taken from probably the hip area and a rod will be inserted inside the bones to connect them permanently. She should be hospitalized only two days, can bear weight as soon as she's comfortable, and can swim as soon as the two or three small incision sites heal. Krista should hear back next week about scheduling but they don't anticipate it happening before the end of summer time - the surgeons schedules are full until then. We will let you know when it's time to head back to the hospital.
