Team Emily..Medical Bills and Treatments

Welcome! Emily Cunningham is 17 years old and first started showing signs of an illness at 14. She began by just passing out at school, reporting chest and stomach pain with numbness in her arms and legs. She has been seen by countless specialists from here to Atlanta. She has been diagnosed with several things such as POTS, EOS, reflux, prolonged QT wave, gastro paresis, anemia, Mito and the newest of these, Porphyria (AIP). We believe now that the Porphyria has been the unidentified "Monster" that has stolen her last 3 years. She has fabulous doctors that had tested her for this before, but until this last serious episode she has never been positive for it. For the past three years she has been hospitalized too many times to count, had numerous procedures, treatments, blood transfusions and ended up on medical homebound from school the last two years. She even missed her first Prom! We have insurance but the mounting costs of what they won't cover has become over whelming to say the least. The last infusion treatments averaged around 10,000.00 a day for the hematin and hospital stay. I have used all of my sick and annual leave from work, even after many generous leave donations from my co-workers. This has left me on leave without pay to be with her over 2 hours away at our closest Children's Hospital for treatments and hospitalizations. I have been approached about doing several different fund raisers. We are planning to do the bracelets, mostly for the kids and teens, but were encouraged to try this site for people out of town to have a way to give as well. The funds will be used to pay doctors, pathology, radiology, anesthesiologist, hospital and treatment costs.
