Help With Blackie & Annie's Vet Bills

My wife and I care for special needs cats and take in healthy senior cats in danger of euthanasia. We give our cats the best medical care, pay for everything ourselves, and have never asked for any help. But, we got into a bind when we took in 3 senior cats (named Blackie, Misty & BooBoo) a few weeks ago from an 81 yr old woman who was being evicted by her landlord because he wanted to raise the rent. Within a week of the 3 cats' arriving, they each had medical issues and had to go to the hospital, costing us $3,000. To make matters worse, a week later, one of our own cats, named Annie, needed emergency surgery for mammary cancer, which cost another $3,100. In the space of just a couple of weeks, we ended up spending $6,100 on the four cats. We are now in a financial bind and need help.

This happened because we wanted to help the woman and her cats... She had been an animal rescuer for many years and helped find them good homes. She had no family, just the cats. She grew up in an orphanage until she was 16 in 1950, and then went to live at a wealthy doctor's house, where she worked as a domestic servant for little to no pay, and raised the family's 2 sons. When the doctor died, his adult sons got her on welfare and moved her to an apartment. She never had a life of her own and now she has Parkinson's. One of the son's sold the apartment building where she was living to his relative, who had her evicted. Without us, her 3 cats, Blackie, Misty & BooBoo, would have been euthanized. Since the cats have been her only family, we wanted to help and give them a home. We also hope she'll find another pet-friendly place to live, so she can be reunited with at least one of them.

When we brought the 3 cats home, Misty and BooBoo were so stressed that they wouldn't eat at first. We were afraid they'd get hepatic lipidosis, and took them to the hospital. They were there for 2 days. They're home and doing better, but it cost $2,000.

Then, Blackie had to go to the hospital because she has a lump on her tummy area. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with mammary cancer and diabetes. With all the testing, her visit cost about $1,000.

In the middle of all this, we discovered a bleeding sore on one of our own cats -- Annie. We took her to the ER at Penn Vet, where she was diagnosed with mammary cancer and an infected tumor. She needed surgery the next day and four of her 8 mammary glands were removed. She's doing well, but needs more treatment.

Although we were short on funds after spending $3,000 on Misty, BooBoo & Blackie, Annie had to have surgery because of the infected tumor. Moreover, Annie had been my mother-in-law's cat. She came to live with us when my mother-in-law died in April 2012, and we discovered Annie's tumor just 2 days before Mother's Day. This is a photo of Annie when she lived with my mother-in-law.

Annie will need additional treatment and maybe surgery. Blackie needs to have her diabetes treated before surgery can even be considered. Annie and Blackie are otherwise in good condition and have good quality of life that can be maintained with the necessary treatments.

Unfortunately, this all happened at once. We are in a bind and need help to get over this hump. We have never asked for any financial assistance, but we need help now. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated. Annie and Blackie thank you for reading this... We know this story is kind of long, but we had to explain why we're asking for help.
