Hi My Name is Joe Cook Im an Architectural Graduate and currently undertaking my Postgraduate studies in Architecture and Urban Design. As an Architectural Designer it has always been my dream to visit one of the 7 wonders of the world in the Red Rocks of Petra, Jordan and in contrast the Urban dense city of Shanghai. This opportunity is being presented in the form of a Study trip put on by the Architectural Association School of Architecture. The school is regarded as one of a kind and one of the best architectural schools in the world with the majority of todays architectural innovators being part of its alumni. The course will be made up of intensive workshops, lectures, site visits and guest speakers all crammed into one week(one week in jordan then one week in shanghai). It will certainly be hard work but very rewarding and invaluable to my studies none the less.
The aim of making this field trip is for it to form the basis of my final year dissertation and design thesis in Urban Design and the organic morphologies that occur in nature. My research will explore how we can combine these typologies for innovative urban design solutions that solves many of the problems within densely populated cities. I dream one day of attending the AA to study but being a private school means the fees are extrememly high, so this is as close as i will get for the time being. My ultimate ambition is to contribute to the world in a positive way through design, more particularly through the way we occupy and inhabit space, this experience will be one of the building blocks in this process.
The problem I face that having been a poor student for 6 years (yes 6 years!) I do not have enough money to fund what will be a fundamental trip in my Masters thesis. I do not expect to simply be handed this on a plate. I will save all I can to make the necessary arrangments for accomodation and living expenses but need a little push in raising funds for the flights and subsequent Workshop fees.
