Support a Wrongfully Terminated Officer

Officer Stephen Stem, formerly of the Hearne (TX) Police Department was fired by vote of the city council after he shot and killed a subject on a person with a weapon call.  Officer Stem arrived on scene to find a woman with a .38 caliber handgun.  According to the subject's nephew, the man who called to report her, Officer Stem ordered the subject to drop her gun three times.  She responded by firing two shots.  Officer Stem was left with no choice but to return fire, which resulted in the 93 year old woman's death.

Shortly after the woman's death, protestors began flooding city hall with demands that Officer Stem be fired and criminally charged, despite the fact that he acted to save his own life and the life of the innocent nephew.  Media outlets have reported on the incident, but have ommitted from their reports that the subject fired first in an apparent effort to create racial controversy surrounding the incident in order to garner ratings.  

Obviously, it is tragic any time someone loses their life, but the decisions of the subject created that outcome.  Officer Stem is suffering, not only financially but also emotionally as he has to cope with taking a life.  Officer Stem is now left out of a job and unable to support his family as he will likely be considered unemployable until such time as he is cleared by the grand jury.  As we all know, bills add up and most public servants live paycheck to paycheck.  I ask that you donate to this cause to allow Officer Stem and his family to maintain their standard of living while he works his way through the legal process.  Let's all show Officer Stem that there are good people in this world that support the noble work he does.
