Happiness can be found in even the darkest moments of one's life. When despair has stricken your heart and you believe everyone has abandoned you....its in these moments that people can see the true meaning of friends & family.
As some of you may already know a dear friend, husband and father of three Mark Mastrofrancesco was diagnosed with ALS approximately 3 years ago (at only 46 years old). ALS, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
Prior to being diagnosed with ALS, Mark was always the first to help out in any situation. Mark is one of those people (we all know one) that would always step up and do anything for anyone....the person you call when your car breaks down, or your dishwasher is leaking, or your halloween statue won't light up anymore. Always happy to help with never a complaint. Throughout his life, Mark always helped other people....now its our turn to help Mark.
Mark has refused to give up the fight against ALS and continues to fight this deadly disease every second of every day. The battle with ALS is a difficult one and Mark is now confined to a wheelchair. Since Mark's house is not handicap friendly, he and his wife have discussed selling their house and moving into a one-story that would be better-suited for a wheelchair. We would love nothing more than to return all the favors from Mark over all the years that we have known him. Please help us raise enough money to help Mark and his wife make the house where he raised his children a little more comfortable for him as he continues this battle. We have a goal of raising $50,000 for Mark and with your help, I think we can do it. Pass Mark's story on to your friends...post it on facebook....every dollar we can raise will allow Mark to continue to enjoy the little things that life offers.....things that you and I take for granted everyday....going to his bedroom upstairs by ....having the ability to take a shower more easily .....being able to tell his wife and children that he loves them! These are the areas we can help them.... by installing a lift, widening doorways, getting Mark a communication aid....
