Ghana Medical Mission Trip

Greetings Family, Friends and Supporters!
My name is Saran Hall and I am a second year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine (HUCM).
I was recently selected to embark upon a medical mission trip in June 2018 with 11 other students of the International Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) at HUCM. We will be traveling to Tema, a city in Ghana that is about 16 miles east of Accra, the nation’s capital.
During this mission we will be volunteering at the Narh-Bita teaching hospital and will be given the opportunity to rotate through various departments, assist local doctors in taking histories and perform physical exams. In addition, we will have the opportunity to observe multiple surgical procedures performed at the hospital and gain perspective on the local healthcare system.
As a native of Jamaica, I am very interested in Global Health and would like to incorporate it into my practice as a physician in the near future. This trip is an excellent way for me to engage with and learn more about the healthcare system in a developing nation, develop cultural competency and skills in technical adaptation and most importantly assist an underserved community.
The trip is entirely student funded and so any proceeds will assist me in covering airfare ($1500), meals ($200), accomodations ($945), vaccinations ($550) and visa and travel documents costs ($205).
