Dear Friends,
Our dear friend and fiscal sponsor, Susi Walsh, who has helped so many filmmakers and friends, both personally and professionally, experienced a small catastrophe this past weekend, when the boat she was living on caught fire and sank. Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire. Susi is fine, though a bit shaken.
As friends and colleagues, we have been meeting to discuss how to help Susi and The Center for Independent Documentary (CID) recover from the fire, which has made it difficult for Susi to work, given that her purse, laptop computer and personal possessions were lost in this disaster. Thus this letter.
Susi Walsh supports the documentary community in numerous ways, every day, with warmth and a sense of humor. CID works with approximately 150 active film projects in production as fiscal sponsor, mostly single-handedly. She runs the annual Kopkind/CID Filmmaker Camp with John Scagliotti, and also works with John to curate and run the Pride of the Ocean Film Festival, which has grown two festivals per year. The spring cruise of Pride of the Ocean sails in just two weeks, which means Susi will be scrambling to replace her wallet, computer and passport right away. Beyond this direct work with filmmakers, Susi is a visionary leader in the field. She was instrumental as a founding board member of the Massachusetts Production Coalition in creating a broad, and thriving filmmaking community in the Bay State.

Susi and the Center for Independent Documentary could use our help now, more than ever. Time is of the essence! We hope you will join us in supporting an organization that is key to our survival as filmmakers and vitally important to each of us, during a time of increased need. The funds we are raising will go toward replacing the computer lost in the fire, hiring additional help to get through the backlog of work created by the disaster, and otherwise helping CID recover from this difficult situation.
Every contribution helps, no matter the amount. All proceeds will go to The Center for Independent Documentary and are fully tax deductible.
