The Big Walk to the Big Dance

Donation protected
Strathmore Cricket Club is a community sports club which is working hard to provide sports and social opportunities for all members of our community. You can help us to do that by supporting our collective walking challenge – The Big Walk to the Big Dance.

In October 2020, the Scotland men’s cricket team were set to compete in the T20 World Cup in Australia – The Big Dance.

We set ourselves the collective challenge of walking/running the 10,826 miles to Hobart, Tasmania before Scotland’s first scheduled match on 19 October 2020.

The World Cup has since been postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic but our walk will go on nevertheless...

In fact, we have actually decided to extend our journey to visit each city in Australia that was scheduled to host a match (adding a further 2600 miles...)

We’re doing this to help us raise money to make our facilities more accessible and our club more inclusive.

We deliver cricket opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

We also work with local partners to provide community and social activities including:

·        A community café – which provides nutritious, affordable, food for people who are not well off. It also acts as a meeting place for people who may be lonely or isolated

·        Family learning and family fund programmes

·        Digital skills programmes

·        A non-alcoholic bar for young people

·        Charity fund-raisers for a number of good causes

We believe that our club makes an important contribution to health and wellbeing of the Forfar community and we want to increase that contribution by making our facilities more accessible. This will make it easier for people of all ages to come along, take part and benefit from the activities on offer.

Our plan is to:

·        Build access ramps which will make it possible for people with disabilities to access and use all parts of our ground and clubhouse. They will also improve access for parents with young children in buggies and wheelchairs

·        Build a fully accessible toilet

·        Improve our changing rooms to make them more suitable for people with disabilities

·        Install an electronic scoreboard, which will be easier for everyone to read

The total cost of this work will be £25,000 and we are looking for your help to raise that money.

We don't expect to raise the full amount through this fundraising effort. We will also be exploring forms of sponsorship and grant funding to help us achieve our goals.

We know that we may not be able to make all these changes in one go. We also know that if we can raise £5000, we can start to make a difference. So £5000 is our first target...
