On Thursday February 25, 2016 our friend Eric Major lost his battle with brain cancer. He left behind two incredible daughters, Taylor Christine Major (9 years old) and Reagan Elizabeth Major (4 months old). This campaign is to raise funds for Reagan and Taylor’s education.
Some of you may already know the story, but for those who do not, Eric was diagnosed with a brain cancer in October 2015 at just 32 years old—just weeks before the birth of his second daughter. Instead of celebrating the safe arrival of their daughter, Eric and his wife Whitney embarked on the unknown – how would the cancer react to the treatment, how sick would Eric become, and how would they deal with this devastating news while preparing for the arrival of a new baby.
From the outset, Eric was determined to beat his diagnosis. He fought the disease with everything he had. Throughout it all, he kept his sense of humor, his wit, his metal sharpness and toughness, his hope, and his love for his family and friends. Just days before starting radiation and chemo, Eric received the news that one of the top brain tumor surgeons in the world could perform surgery on his tumor. He was ecstatic because he knew the surgery was the best option to give him more time with those he loved.
The surgery was tough but Eric continued to fight and work on recovering so that he could continue his treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer was extremely aggressive and began to grow and spread at an alarming rate. By the end of January, the prognosis was not good. Eric spent his final weeks surrounded by his family, friends, and loved ones.
Eric leaves behind his two amazing daughters. Those that knew Eric know how much he loved Taylor and Reagan and that he was a dedicated father. Taylor is a smart 9 year old who has definitely inherited Eric’s intelligence. She has probably beaten all of Eric’s friends at every board game and card game out there.
Eric was so excited when he found out that he and Whitney would be welcoming his second daughter in October. Reagan is a beautiful baby girl who is growing bigger every day.
So this is where the fundraiser comes in, please help us honor Eric’s memory by ensuring that Taylor and Reagan will have the resources they need to get through school and college. Eric was a gifted student his entire life. He graduated as the valedictorian of his engineering class at VCU and went on to earn his masters in engineering at the University of Florida. Please help us give his daughters the same opportunities for success. We have worked with an attorney to create two education trusts, one for each of Taylor and Reagan (all fees associated with setting up the trusts have been covered by the organizers). All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be split equally between the two trusts (if you would like to make separate contributions please see the contact details below). The trusts will be administered to provide funds for any education related expense for Reagan and Taylor, including college tuition when the time arrives.

We, Matt Kurz, BJ Allen, and Mitch Hauser, first met Eric in elementary school. We shared all of life’s experiences together, including little league baseball, high school football games, graduations, marriages, vacations, the birth of children and so much more. When we learned of Eric’s prognosis, we decided that providing for Taylor and Reagan’s future was the best way to honor his memory. All the funds raised by everybody's generosity will be go directly to the two trusts to support Taylor and Reagan’s education.
