Hi, My name's Baya and I am 8 months old. I am a Newfoundland, which means I am going to be a big girl once I'm all grown up, but for now I'm staying small (lots of people joke that I'm a mini Newfie because I only weigh 70Ibs right now). I really love humans, but my favorite are the really little ones that like to giggle and snuggle with me! My human mommy tells me that if I am a really good girl, I can have a job visiting these tiny humans in hospitals as much as I want while they are sick, but for now I still need to learn some more manners. I think that would be the best job in the world!
Two weeks ago my human mommy told me that I have something called Hip Dysplasia, the really bad kind, and I need to have surgery to get me all fixed up so that I can be a puppy again, it's called a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy. I also have something wrong with my elbow that makes me limp a whole lot. I can't run anymore without getting really really sore afterwards, but my human mommy says that they are going to fix that too!
I'm scared though, because all the surgeries I need are really expensive and my mommy doesn't have enough money to pay for them. I am asking for your help so that my mommy can get me better! I would really like to be able to run and play again without hurting anymore, but I can't do that without help from all of you, my friends and family, and the people who care about me!
My mommy told me that all of the surgeries I need will cost about $6,000 and I might need physical therapy after to help me heal and build my strength back up. I am scheduled to have the first two surgeries on May 20th and my third one will be done 6 weeks after that (I have to heal in between so that I have one good hip to walk on before they operate on the other).I promise I will keep all of you updated on my progress as I move forward!
Oh, and if I happen to get any extra money after all of this is over, I am going to give it to a fund that will help other dogs with these types of diseases so that they can get help too!
