Love for Ryan

***Update***

Ryan is finally in his OWN BED. Hospital beds suck when your body is hurting, but they suck even more for someone as tall as he is. He’s much more comfortable. He’s resting well now.

We are completely blown away by the love and support. Please keep it coming and keep sharing!

Four weeks ago Ryan thought he had a flu he just couldn’t kick. I nanny baby Aria during the day and it made sense that one of my kids were passing something around.

He went in to find out why why he couldn’t get better and was informed he had multiple masses on his liver.

Further testing revealed that he had an advanced (stage 4 and growing sizably literally overnight) and incredibly aggressive form of Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. Within a matter of weeks, less than two actually, his team revealed that this type of cancer and it’s patterns in his body were so rare that they’ve only seen a handful like it in history. In the span of six weeks his body went from totally healthy with no cancer to little kidney function, a liver completely engulfed in masses and various other organs causing intense pain and not less than healthy function.

The oncology team painted a grim picture, stating that he was free to decide to start treatment, but that he had very little options and they “didn’t want to give hope where there was none”.

As of the time of this post, he’s got until morning to decide to come home or to take the 4% chance to gain a few extra months. Doctors have told him that if he chooses the treatment option, he will never be cancer free. You don’t beat this kind. He’ll always have it and will need chemo to live. The kind they want to use is brutal. It’s a hard choice and one I cannot even begin to have to think about.

His parents, his wife and the rest of our family are obviously beside ourselves and in complete shock. How does a healthy 34 year old suddenly go from regular life to this news in weeks?

We will need to think about final arrangements. Whatever that means. His wife will be down to one income. His daughter needs to be taken care of. Insurance only pays so much, especially with highly specialized testing, considering the shear volume he’s been subjected to hourly for weeks.

He’ll hate me for it, he’s proud. But I’m putting this out there for his wife, their baby, and my shell shocked grieving parents.

If you feel compelled please do what you can. We love you all.
