Me: My name is Alicia Shibley and I am a mental health counselor and registered art therapist post-graduate candidate working for a non-profit organization. Through an opportunity developed by my former art therapy professor at Bridgeport Hospital, I have been afforded this life changing experience to join PRN International on their upcoming mission trip to Jamaica. I am seeking financial support as this is a voluntary position in which I am expected to cover all expenses and take unpaid leave from my work.
The Cause: “Twice a year, PRN teams of physicians, residents, nurses, and students provide medical care to thousands of people in various countries. With the help of the Catholic Medical Mission Board and donations from Bridgeport Hospital, Yale-New Haven Hospital, and St. Raphael's Hospital in Connecticut, PRN has distributed $8 million in medications and supplies to people in low-resource countries over the last 12 years.”
My Specific Role: I will be joining a wonderful group of professionals to provide support to approximately 70 underprivileged girls in Jamaica. These young girls are away from their families and have all experienced complex trauma. They are in need of care, support, and protection. My specific role would be working with my former art therapy professor to help facilitate art therapy groups. The week-long curriculum will focus on improving quality of daily life by developing skills to increase:
Stress Management
Frustration Tolerance
Self Esteem and Self-Expression
Affect identification and regulation
Effective coping strategies
Where is the money going?

Professional Development
Art Therapy Counseling and Supervision
Debriefing Weekend Opportunity

Be a witness to the healing process from afar! All sponsors will be able to follow my journey in Jamaica through a daily visual journal. This journal will include entries, reflections and photographs from beginning to end.
