I have been accepted to go to Zambia to work in an orphanage. With the significant portion of children living under the poverty line in Zambia, many of these vulnerable children suffer from poor hygiene, inadequate education, insufficient food and little to no healthcare. Individualized attention and a focus on early development and education are crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty in Zambia. We will be working in orphanages, childcare facilities for underprivileged children, nursery schools, or a special needs facility. Volunteer work is focused on mentorship, basic informal teaching, giving attention and affection, and interacting with the children through games, singing, dancing, sports and arts and crafts. While I am there, I have also requested to work with the special needs program as well. Special needs children are not taken care of in Africa, and in many cases are left to die. IVHQ has partnered with local groups to set up orphanages for these children and care for their needs. I want to be a part of making their lives better.
I chose Africa because the needs are SO basic and vital there. I would feel like I am REALLY making a difference, not just spinning on some hamster wheel. The children in Africa fight for basic needs like water and food and appreciate the simplest acts of kindness and laughter. I know I can give them happiness, fun and joy as well as basic care.
I want to be clear that this is not just a summer camp kind of thing for me. This is a change in my life! I want this to be my career. This is just the first step to getting my foot in the door. I have ALWAYS wanted to do this and I know it's my calling. I would be SO appreciative if you could help me and these children. The money I am raising on this page is to cover my transportation to and from Zambia, as well as accomodations while I am there. I will be covering the rest of my stay including food, vaccinations, program resources, training, visa, etc.
If you donate any amount, I will send you a picture of myself and one of the children I will be helping. If you donate any amount, I will send you a picture of me and the kiddos. If you donate $100, I will send you a photograph signed by one of the kiddos. If you donate $250, I will also send you a personalized thank you letter from one of the children and updates on the kiddos progress. If you donate $500, I will also bring you back a souvenir from Zambia!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! Please enjoy this video from International Volunteer Headquarters!
