Walking With Amelia

Amelia Ruth Moody and her twin, Mary Kaitlin were born at 27 weeks. They weighed just 2 pounds at birth. After being life flighted and placed in PICU, it was discovered that Amelia had suffered a brain bleed causing Cerebral Palsy. She has been such a happy and determined little girl who has not let this slow her down. Now at age 4 we are told that she needs the SDR surgery to release the spasticy in her legs and possibly the PERCS procedure at a later date. We are told that without this surgery, she will be wheelchair bound by late teens or early 20's. But with the surgery, she has a great chance of walking and being able to join her twin in her activities. Amelia and her parents have to go to St. Louis, MO. for this surgery. This is 6 hours from their home and will involve her parents needing a place to stay during the 3 week hospital stay for Amelia. Her dad will have to travel back home weekly due to his job and the fact that she has 4 siblings at home. After surgery and hospital recuperation, she will require traveling 45 minutes one way 5 days per week for therapy for 6 months. Then 3 times a week for a year. The travel for this will not be covered by insurance. We need all the help we can get as we want to do what is best for our precious Amelia. This will not be easy, but it is definitely necessary.
