911 Dispatcher home damaged days before retiring

"Long time Public Safety Dispatcher home heavily damaged by structure fire days before she was to start her retirement."

On Wednesday February 6th 2019, Public Safety Dispatcher Tama Pearson was arriving to work at the Huntsville-Madison County 911 Center to work her next to last shift before her retirement. Tama has dedicated most of her life to the service of others and was set work one of her last days before retirement with the City of Madison Police Department, Alabama. After only a short while at the dispatch center, Tama overheard a 911 call being answered just a few feet away from her console. In the years she has worked as a dispatcher Tama has answered or overheard thousands of 911 calls, but this one was different.

This one was her address, her home. Tama heard the address and pulled up the call to confirm that it was her home that a citizen had reported was on fire. No one was home at the time, Tama's husband who also works in public safety as a long time Huntsville Fire Fighter was not home either. As Tama confirmed with a neighbor over the phone and call details started to come in over the radio, it was clear the report was correct. On a day that was supposed to be a happy one, being wished well in her retirement, she was instead shocked that her own home was on fire.

As Tama drove home immediately from work, one could only image the thoughts going though her mind. Lucky her dogs were able to make it out of the home in time and survived but a large portion of the home and many of her belongings in their longtime home were destroyed by either fire, smoke or water.

I have worked with Tama for many years and I can honestly say she is one of the most caring individuals you could ever meet. Tama is always there for her friends and family, no matter what they need or when they need it, she is there.  Before her days working as a public safety dispatcher Tama was also a EMT with the Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Department and responded to calls to aid complete strangers during their time of need. More recently Tama started working part time as a care giver in her time off from work. She truly has the heart of servant and cares for those in need.

I would like to ask those who can, to donate to help both Tama and her husband recover from this. Both of them have given so much to their community as public safety responders for so many years and it's time we give back and help them in their time of need. I have asked for Tama's blessing to start this fundraiser, her first response was to humbly say she didn't want people to have to do this for her, but as I quickly reminded her... She would do the same for us.

We love you Tama, we thank you and Aaron for so many years of dedicated service to others and we hope to be able to give back to you both.
