911 dispatcher / Acute Leukemia

My name is Carolyn Miller. I am 49 years old, and work as a 911 dispatch supervisor, as I have for the past 20 years. Prior to that, I worked as a full-time police dispatcher for Redlands PD and Rialto PD in California. I am a single mother of 3 teen-aged kids Gracie - 17,and twins Dalton and Delaney - 13. I do shared parenting with their father. Like most people, I live paycheck to paycheck.
On March 29th, I had a stroke, which has left some weakness in my left arm. I was placed off work during recovery from my stroke, which depleted my accrued sick and vacation time. On May 1st, I went to the emergency room with chest pains and difficulty breathing. I was also badly bruised, and feared I might have a blood clot. I was transferred from Logan hospital to Ohio State/James cancer hospital because of some irregularities with my blood work. I underwent a bone marrow biopsy on April 30th. On May 1st, I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL). Although the prognosis for this form of Leukemia is good (90% survival rate), it requires 2 years of chemotherapy (with Arsenic). The first 28+ days are inpatient. Then treatments are 5x a week upon discharge, for 1 year. The chemo continues for 1 additional year, for a total of 2 years (barring any complications). My doctor said I only had days to live when I was diagnosed.
I am currently using FMLA time through my employer (without pay). I have applied for temporary disability, but have been told it can take 4-5 months to process. In the meantime, I still have a family to support, and bills to pay.
I am asking for support in assisting with bills, food, transportation costs, and living expenses. Every little bit helps! If all you can spare is a prayer, I would be happy with that, as well! Thank you for taking the time to read this post. God bless!
