As you will have seen in the media, 31 sons and 8 daughters, all set off from Vietnam, with dreams of helping their families. On October 23rd those dreams became nothing short of a nightmare, when it was discovered in Essex, that each and every single one of them had tragically perished during their journey to the UK, whilst inside a lorry. It’s shocked the nation! What their families must be going through is absolutely beyond comprehension.
I’d seen on the news that the families of the victims couldn’t afford to fly to the UK to identify their loved ones and are still awaiting the results of the DNA tests, to confirm if indeed, their sons and daughters are among the 39 victims of this horrific tragedy. What a tortuous wait! I can’t even imagine. ( Update: in the last few days the identity’s of all 39 victims have been confirmed) I wondered and I’m sure others did too, was there no financial help to allow these families to fly to the UK to identify their loved ones and see them for the last time? It made me further question is there going to be any financial help for the funerals? What about the financial debts?
The bereaved families I’d seen being interviewed, didn’t know how they were going to afford to pay for the funerals. They’ve also been left with massive debts, incurred from the loans taken out to help send their loved ones to the UK, but what struck me most, was how all 39 immigrants making the treacherous journey overseas, were all doing it for the exact same reason. They wanted to help their families! To selflessly help clear family debts and to help better their families quality of life.
This is why I wanted to donate, to help aid these families in their time of need and to help fulfil the wishes of their loved ones, but on checking multiple times for a page or a way to donate to the families of the 39 victims, I haven’t come across one, which is why I’ve set this page up.
I’ve never started a fundraising campaign before, but I’m relentless and I’ll work tirelessly until the funds raised are in the right hands, an organisation or person who can give this money, directly to the families of the victims.
Any person seeking to contribute to this heart-breaking cause can do so through this page. Any contribution no matter how small an amount or how small an action, will go a long way towards helping the families of the victims. The contribution doesn’t have to be financial, sharing the campaign on your social media and asking people to share is just as important. After all ‘Great things are done by a series of small things brought together’.
